đź‘» Goodbye Ghost
Ghost is awesome, but just overkill for what I need
For the past year, I’ve been hosting my blog on Ghost, a powerful CMS. Recently, I spent a few hours upgrading to the latest version to access features like built-in analytics—and it got me thinking: how much do I really use all of this?
Why I Loved Ghost
Don’t get me wrong, I love Ghost. It’s a fantastic platform, with support for subscriptions, newsletters, social media, and a robust API for managing just about everything. Plus, you can self-host it completely free, and there’s no difference between the paid hosted version and a self-hosted setup.
Why I Left
So why switch? Simply put, Ghost is overkill for my needs. I don’t have subscribers or newsletters, I barely use the API (though I did build an automation to proofread draft posts with AI via n8n), and self-hosting consumes resources on my already busy Docker servers.
“Overkill for my needs” pretty much sums it up.
Back to Jekyll
That’s why I’ve returned to Jekyll. For now, it’s lightweight, efficient, and perfectly fits everything I need for my blog.
